4 Easy Steps to Speak Up for Yourself

Know Yourself:

  • Think about what you’re good at and what you need to practice (like talking, listening, or being confident).
  • Notice where you already speak up (like at school or with friends).
  • Decide where you want to be better at speaking up.

Learn Your Rights:

  • If you have a disability, you can ask for help at school or work. It’s important to know what help you can get and how to ask for it.

Speak Up:

  • Share your ideas in class or at home.
  • Ask questions if you don’t understand something.
  • Stand up for yourself if something isn’t fair.
  • Ask for help when you need it.

Get Support:

  • Find people who can help you (like friends, teachers, or family members)
  • Having a team makes self-advocacy easier!
  • The more you practice, the stronger you’ll get at speaking up for yourself.
